Questions about our camps?

What ages and experience levels are at camp?

Camp is open to individuals as well as teams, age 13-adult. Any camper age 18+ at the start of camp MUST register for an adult camp. Adult campers are housed in a different dorm than youth campers in keeping with University policy.

What forms do I need?

A medical form and packing list will be attached to your confirmation E-mail. They can also be found below. The medical form must be filled out and brought to the first day of camp or sent to the camp director in advance. Preferred methods are by fax at 931-598-1673 or email at midombro@sewanee.edu (use XC Camp Medical as the subject line, please)!

What does a typical day look like?

Each full day will consist of 2 runs, usually a longer morning run with shorter afternoon options. There will be a variety of distances and difficulties throughout each day. As well, campers may bring bikes (and a helmet) to help balance their mileage with less impact. Returning campers should know additional miles have been added to the railroad trail (mountaingoattrail.org). This paved trail will complement the on-campus trails and terrain.

Camp will utilize many of the university facilities during our “down time.” Extra camp activities may include Ultimate Frisbee, basketball, indoor climbing wall, swimming (pool or lake), hiking on Sewanee’s 13,000-acre campus, Scavenger Hunts, cook-out, etc.

Are there any discounts?

The best discount is our early bird registration ($50). To simplify the registration process, we do not have a team structure requiring a set number of runners to qualify for the discount. Anyone who pays in full by the April 1 cut-off will receive the early bird rate.

Should you deposit by the early bird deadline, but make a second payment after April 1, the full fee will apply.

What is your refund policy?

You may elect to pay a $200 deposit or the full amount when registering. Final payments need to be received prior to April 1 for early registration rates. After April 1, second payments will result in the full (non-discounted) rate. All payments are due by July 1st.

Refunds prior to May 1 are subject to a $50 cancellation fee. Refunds after May 1 will be 50% of camp fee OR full future camp credit. After July 1, only future camp credit may apply.

May I use paper registration instead of online?

Yes. Please fill out the mail-in registration form and send to the address listed on the form. Download: Mail – In Registration Form

May parents and coaches watch camp sessions?

Absolutely! They may find the Saturday race and different training sessions (speed work, etc.) of particular interest. Coaches may want to check out the coach camp section. In exchange for camp staff duties, one coach may attend for free with 5+ campers. There is also a paid option.

What if I have an emergency and need to contact my camper?

Feel free to contact them on their cell number or use our camp cell at 607-437-0292. If your camper does not have his/her own cell phone, he/she is more than welcome to use ours, at any time, emergency or not.

Why Mountain Trails XC Camp?

Campers benefit from a great trail system with a mix of maintained grass, dirt and gravel trails. You’ll enjoy interesting and scenic trails without traffic found on street runs. Trails are on-campus, meaning your feet hit the trails sooner.

At an elevation of 1,900 feet, campus will typically be cooler with less humidity than you’d imagine for the end of July. The average July daytime high is 83 degrees with low humidity.

Campers will have access to the university facilities during downtime. The dining hall is all you can eat, and after many years of camp, they know to expect a run on chocolate milk when we are in town!

This is a 6-night; 7-day XC Camp. A few days is not enough time to get ready for the demands of preseason. Our staff wants to help you get in great shape, learn more about the sport, while having fun!

How does the adult camp differ from the youth sessions?

The adult distance camp has two different lengths allowing our runners to get the experience they want within the demands of their professional lives. Adult campers are housed in their own residence hall and will have separate discussions.

When is camp check-in / check-out?

Camp check-in and check-out will be at our assigned dorms (to be determined and announced later). Full week camp check-in will be 2-4pm on Sunday, July 24th and check-out will be at 10am on Saturday, July 30th. The half-week adult camp check-ins are either 1-3pm or 7-9pm on Wednesday, July 27th depending on your travel needs. Check-out will also be at 10am on Saturday, July 30th.
